Outdoor Education Programs with Butler Parklands
Butler Parklands runs established outdoor education programs in five of its focus areas. These programs combine outdoor aerobic activity with lessons in ecology, geology, biology, and history, and are integrated into the curriculum of participating schools. These lessons and the enjoyment of outdoor recreation can last a lifetime and foster the creation of new outdoor enthusiasts.

Butler Parklands sees the education of younger generations as a key element in the long-term protection of natural ecosystems. Even children living in close proximity to the beauties of the natural environment often have little or no direct exposure to it.
Our Outdoor Education Programs are committed to creating a meaningful and enriching opportunity for students, emphasizing environmental awareness and lifetime fitness. Each program has developed an interdisciplinary curriculum to complement the students’ classroom teaching with time devoted to outdoor activity. This serves to integrate an awareness of fitness with appreciation for the out-of-doors. Programs host students for guided outings in nature, including, hiking, biking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing, and kayaking.
To date, these programs have hosted over 150,000 student visits for aerobic, educational, and inspiring outings in nature.
