A stunning variety of landscapes, topography, waterbodies, plant communities and wildlife comprise Butler Parklands sites— awe-inspiring backdrops for transformative experiences in the outdoors. Each park is an immersion into the rich history of a region. Hiking, biking, skiing and paddling opportunities are tailored to suit each unique terrain. World-class infrastructure facilitates every level of adventure. Countless trails, education centers, support facilities, campsites, warming huts, screened pavilions and more await.

Our parks are open to all abilities, fitness and skill levels, and provide fabulous recreation opportunities for families. Nearly all offer guided educational outings for school children, in hopes of fostering lifelong connections to the natural world.

Altogether, our parks offer more than 450 kilometers of carefully designed green and blue trailways, while conserving hundreds of miles of ocean, lake and riverfront for future generations.

Black River Cypress Preserve

Joining 30,000 protected acres along one of South Carolina’s most exotic rivers, Black River Cypress Preserve is the finest semitropical park in the northern hemisphere. Well-groomed swampside and pineland trails welcome hikers and bikers, while paddlers can navigate the Black’s tea-colored waters all the way from the headwater swamps to its junction with the Pee Dee River and Winyah Bay.

Perito Moreno National Park

One of the most remote and dramatic parks in South America, Perito Moreno National Park is an incomparably wild destination for adventurous travelers. Ninety kilometers of trails encircle the shores of its pure, electric-blue lakes – a perfect setting for hiking and camping.

Rio Uruguay

Beautiful, ecologically rich and dynamic, the Islas y Canales Verdes del Rio Uruguay preserve is home to a diverse population of plants and animals. Nature lovers can kayak or canoe through semitropical gallery forests, marshes and expansive sandbars while catching a glimpse of capybara, collared peccaries, forest cats, hundreds of species of birds, and thousands of species of fish.

Patagonia National Park

The monumental Patagonia National Park encompasses 640,000 acres in Chilean Patagonia and represents one of the world’s most successful efforts to restore native flora and fauna in the Patagonian valley. Visitors can hike along vertiginous ridges, picnic beside hidden Andean lakes, and spend the night in a truly unsurpassed corner of the earth.

On Maine’s Penobscot River Trails, visitors can experience the same magnificent riverscape that inspired the writings of Henry David Thoreau. The wild, remote waterway provides a mix of tranquility and thrill, with miles of trails to hike, bike, cross-country ski, canoe and kayak.

Cobscook Shores

Cobscook Bay in DownEast Maine is a spectacular natural gem, boasting a 40-square-mile tidal sea with the most extreme tides in the continental U.S. Its twenty interconnected parks provide opportunities to kayak, birdwatch, botanize and hike a range of landscapes and terrains, all within reach of the historic town of Lubec.

Black River Environmental Improvement Association

Set in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, Black River Environmental Improvement Association is a window into upstate New York’s breathtaking diversity of terrain, ecology and history. Eighty kilometers of trails await for cross-country skiing, hiking and bicycling along the region’s historic canals.

Shawangunks Regional Trail Network

Less than two hours from New York City lies the “Gunks,” one of North America’s most historic mountain ranges. From primitive backcountry routes to superbly smooth carriage roads, hikers and bikers enjoy 140 miles of trails, while the Wallkill and Rondout rivers provide kayaking and canoeing in one of America’s most storied landscapes.
